MATERIALS AND PROTECTIVE TREATMENTS The material used for the IMS tool holders is hard case steel with treatment of cementatin, carbonizing and recovering with HRC 54-60 hardness. Concerning the tool holder for marble and glass working machineries, they are niploy coated in order to avoid rust problem or on request tool holders are made in special stainless steel, this particular alloy has magnetic properties and it has a hardness HRC 40-50. All the working process follows DIN; UNI and ASME norms. PROTECTIVE TREATMENTS ![]() Coolants used in processing marble, glass and stone are a mixture of water and chemical. While coolants are effective in aiding the process of the products these chemical agents are highly corrosive for metal. To avoid this oxidation and corrosion problem, every exposed surface of our tool holders are niploy coated, that means a special process based on the nichel chemical deposition. This nickel coating process leaves micro-particle on the surface of the tapered cones that are not measurable with standard tools. At the end of the process the cone is grinded on the cone face and on the cylindrical diameters in order to grant the best quality. At the end the colour of the piece will be yellow. Often in the wood working branch also, ithappen that the tool holder get rust due to the oxidization and corrosive properties of some wooden shaving essences. In order to avoid this problem IMS make two different coating type the niploy and the impreglon treatments, the last one in particular darkens the external part of the cone giving it a very special smoothness the cleaner device of the machine to blow the shaving.
